DB Pullover

The DB Pullover is a mid-phase isotonic Vertical Pull ing exercise that embraces a large overhead and Thoracic - Extension range. Given the movements emphasised and muscles involved, the DB Pullover may be relevant for pathologies such as Thoracic Spine Kyphosis , Scapular Dyskinesis and Subacromial Impingement .

Muscles Involved

Procedure

Starting Position:

  • Patient lies supine with their back supported on a bench

  • One end of the DB is grasped with both hands and held with both arms relatively straight and above the chest

The DB Pullover is then performed by directing the weight over and behind the head, emphasising Thoracic - Extension , before returning it to the starting position above the chest. Compensation from The Elbow , The Hip and other structures should be avoided.

Variations

  • Weight Substitute - the DB can be substituted for other forms of resistance such as a Barbell, Plate or Cable attachment

Regressions

The following exercises can be used as a regression if DB Pullovers exceed the capacity of the patient:

Progressions

The following exercises can be used as a progression to DB Pullovers once exercise proficiency is achieved:
